expansion joint question

i want to know about expansion joints for blue stone 1'' thick. How the joint is made up. the deck has a ramdon pattern so how do i do it. also it hasnt been started till i figure it out. the deck is 24' square

if your area is 24 ft by 24 ft in size, then you should place and expansion joint in the concrete substrate every 8 feet. If you want to place an expansion joint also for the bluestone then make a straight line division in the center (for very 12 feet should be OK... if you are concerned about hte movement then every 8 feet)
