Question from: R Menna Posted: Dec 31, 1969 (17:00)
Re: Kitchen remodeling. We have installed kinawa granite countertops and porcelain tile floor (13" tiles set at diagonal). Now we are ready to do the backsplash. We plan to use the 6" version of the floor tiles set square. We want to add small diamonds of the kinawa (2-4" squares, not sure yet what size) to accent the backsplash and tie everything together. Questions: (1) Does it make sense to try to fabricate the small tiles out of the hunk of leftover slab (from the cooktop cutout)? Or (2) Should I buy some kinawa tiles and cut them? (3) If 2, then what about the slight difference in thickness between the granite and ceramic tiles (1/16")? Should I worry about polishing the edges of the small squares? What would you do?thanks

There is a new product call Solo5. It is a much thinner type(only 1/2 inch) of Granite use for countertops. They heat it up and use a epoxy in the expanding pores. Then they use a fibreglass mesh on the backing. They use a plywood substraight underneath the slab on installation. It is installed for thousands less than the normal granite installations. One of the selling aspects that they use is unlike 1 1/4 granite that this material flexes and don`t break. Have you heard of this new thing and can you give a breakout of advantages and disadvantages ?ThanksRandy

Question from: Eric Decker Posted: Dec 31, 1969 (17:00)
Hi, I have been fabricating granite countertops as a hobby for friends and family. They have turned out well using common Home Depot tools, diamond blades and diamond pads. I want to start a fabrication shop and plan on taking the NTC school but would like to purchase some tools now. I have a budget of around $6000.00 to buy a table or track saw, Router and a professional polisher, what tools (brands please) would best suit my needs. Also what is the best granite sealer (brand please) on the market. Any info you could provide me would be a great help. Thank you Eric
